Contemporary Ethnic Cultures Festival

Dates: July 30 - August 2

Location: the City of Perm, RUSSIA

The Festival is held on the ancient Perm land in the Urals, on the banks of the mighty KAMA river. For thousands years there took place commercial and cultural exchanges between Europe and Asia, North and South. Now the Perm Krai (Region) area is inhabited by 100 nationalities who maintain their distinctive cultures.

Theme: national traditions of different peoples

The name of the Festival was coined from two old roots - KAM which means a Man, Shaman and WA which means Water.

Genres: traditional and contemporary (based on folk material) music, dance, theatre, fashion, media art, ethnography and traditional crafts

Participants: various groups, dancers and singers who use authentic ethnic or folk material in their work.

Programme:

- Music concerts will introduce groups and singers of different styles: folk, fusion, ambient.

- ETHNOFASHION shows will give an insight into ideas of young designers.

- For the first time there will be held a "Dances of the World" Programme.

- At the Open-air KHOKHLOVKA Museum of Wooden Architecture located on the picturesque bank of the "Kama Sea" there will be held a New Harvest Feast and a gala performance with participation of all guests of the festival.

Within the frame of the Festival there will be also organized master classes, workshops and social programme.

Expenses covered by the Organizing Committee:

- accommodation in Perm

- meals

- cultural programme

- local transportation in Perm and in the region

- interpreters.

Participants will have to take care of getting to Perm on their own (visas, international travel, medical insurance).

Visas to Russia:

All foreign participants must obtain visas to Russia. To get a visa to Russia one must have a Letter of Invitation that is absolutely necessary. If we have your personal data we will fill out specific questionnaires and submit them to the Passport and Visa Service of Perm Region. The Letters of Invitations will be ready in 30 days (from the date of submission) and will be faxed to you. Only with these official Letters you will be able to apply for a visa to Russia to the Consulate of Russia in your country.  Please, contact the Russian Consulate in your country to find out how much time is needed to obtain visas and check out whether the Consulate accepts faxed copies or whether only original Letters are required. (Requirements vary depending on the country).
